To whom it may concern,

I am writing on behalf of Marcus van Slageren regarding his task as an acupuncturist. Marcus and I have been meeting during the past year and I have been attending his sessions on a monthly basis. During that time, I have gotten to know Marcus quite well and can thoroughly vouch for his character and abilities.

As a music producer, singer and songwriter established as a professional musician in Spain I have to say that Marcus has helped  me develop myself as a person and as a human being. His work as a health therapist has always made me feel much better and also has boosted my self-esteem. Marcus is a pleasure to work with because his pleasant and positive attitude in life can make nearly any conversation seem fun and interesting. He knows  how to get to the important point in any matter and then help you solve it.

With his relentless motivation and his knowledge of acupuncture, Marcus would bring a wealth of knowledge and skills to anyone who needed help. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at the above address.

Best,

Paul Sastre

October 2013

To whom it may concern,

It has been my privilege to know Marcus Van Slageren for more than 15 years and am happy to recommend him as one of the most professional and effective health practitioners I have known.

I suffered from two herniated discs for many years and about 15 years ago threw my back out while teaching my youngest daughter to ride a bicycle. Through his unique combination of Shiatsu massage and acupuncture, Marcus was able to get me back on my feet and actually removed the pain I had grown used to over the years

Since then, in addition to becoming a close personal friend, Marcus has treated me and my entire family for a number of ailments and health issues.
Marcus combines a deep knowledge of Chinese medicine and Shiatsu with a commitment to his patients as he believes strongly that it is impossible to isolate physical symptoms form emotional stress that we often go through. He has also has an interest in human psychology.

In our immediate circle of friends, he has treated a wide variety of serious issues such as bulimia and depression and has alleviated the suffering of dear friends who were terminally ill with cancer.

Beyond his clinical ability, Marcus has an unblemished character and has chosen to focus his professional efforts on building his practice for the sake of his patients often at the expense of his own material well being. I have never known him to turn anyone away for lack of funds and find his selfless devotion to his craft very rare in today’s material world.

Please feel free to contact me if you require additional information.

Sincerely yours,

Mike Rosenberg

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient technique developed for the first time in China several thousand years ago.

It is based on a long observation and deep understanding of the forces that control nature and their reflection in the functioning of the human body and mind.

The ancient Chinese tried to look deeper than the visible world that constantly changes and takes on different appearances.

They looked for the unchangeable original principals that rule life and command the changing of the seasons, the growing up of children even the rise and fall of specific political ideas.

What is the power that is behind your changing moods, ideas, physical wellbeing?

They discovered a vital intention behind all these phenomena that they called: ‘QI’, meaning Breath, or Life energy (see also SHIATSU).

In the human body this ‘QI’ flows through a network of channels that combine the surface of the body with its interior as well as with its mental and spiritual aspects.

During a long period these pioneers of T.O.M. worked on a whole system of tracking the external channels on the body in their relationship with its internal functions. Leading to the localisation of the 365 traditional acupuncture points. During the centuries more points have been added.

In acupuncture the practitioner, after a thorough and detailed diagnosis develops a treatment plan, adjusted to short and long term necessities.

In several sessions hair-thin (sterile, disposable) needles are inserted in certain acupuncture points, aiming when treating certain syndromes at restoring the energetic balance in the body, relieve pain, improving the levels of energy and strengthening the immunity system.

Herbal medicine

Farmacopea (the use of Chinese Herb combinations) is the extension of this dietary system, certain plants with certain properties and tastes strengthen (or ease) certain organ functions, on a even much more concentrated and powerful level than diet.

Chinese herb combinations are used when there is a necessity of boosting or correcting the energetic basis on a cellular level.

These herbs are always given in a combination to balance each other, if a certain herb produces a lot of heat in the body (for example Ginseng) other cooling herbs are added to make a balanced formula, if certain herbs produce dryness in the body, moisturising herbs are added etc.

Caution should be taken with modern western ‘magical formulas’ based on partial understanding of Chinese Farmacopea that  promise quick solutions to complicated problems.

Chinese Farmacopea is a very sophisticated system applied following a thorough diagnostic and deep understanding of the specific condition of the person and forms a balanced response to his or hers issues and necessities.
